‘Justice League’ Spoilers: Stars Open Up About The Film’s Villain Steppenwolf

Exciting things are ahead for the DCEU now that “Justice League” is just days away from its release.

According to lead stars Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller, who play Wonder Woman and the Flash, respectively, the excitement can be attributed to the film’s formidable villain, Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds).

The two told the Toronto Sun that the DCEU chose a truly worthy contender against their characters, who will team up with Batman (Ben Affleck), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) just to defeat him.

“You know Steppenwolf is this ancient mythical force of evil. So he’s a deeply exciting character to have face off against the Justice League. In the comic books, the Justice League has often come together to deal with (alien) invasions. The origin story of the Justice League in the original comic book series dealt with them fighting off the Appellaxians. So Steppenwolf’s a great character for the team to go up against,” said Miller.

Other films have opted to present a slew of villains to go against superhero teams, but Gadot said the DCEU made a smart choice in pitting them against just one.

“When you simplify a story, especially the ones we’re exploring in the Justice League, where there’s so much going on with the villain and the end of the world and the fact that we’re introducing three new characters, I think it was a smart call to limit the villain to just one person,” added Gadot.

The only one missing from the Justice League is arguably their most iconic figure - Superman (Henry Cavill). He was killed off in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but many fans held out hope that he would be resurrected in the upcoming movie.

However, the film’s cast would like fans to believe otherwise. Miller even jokingly told Polygon that “Henry looks great in dream sequences and as a corpse.”

Cavill will still appear in “Justice League,” although his involvement might be limited to just flashbacks. Whatever the case, Cavill is pretty impressed when he saw his colleagues in action.

“Watching the team dynamic as characters is one of my favorite things about this movie,” Cavill said. “Because superheroes are all just reflections of the human psyche, human traits personified but made grander. I think these guys really nailed it with their interaction or their lack of interaction. These guys smashed it, knocked it out of the park.”
