  • Douglas Costa will join Bayern Munich on loan from Juventus, a report says
  • Costa's future is uncertain with injuries hampering his rise
  • Juventus frees up space with Federico Chiesa potentially coming in

Douglas Costa has not gained much ground with Juventus but now hopes to get a new start with Bayern Munich. The Brazilian will get the chance to recall his old form after struggling to earn the nod of Andrea Pirlo, who has a lot of attackers at his disposal.

The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano, who has a credible track record for breaking transfer news in European soccer, reported that the loan deal is practically done with Costa set for a homecoming at Allianz Arena. The 30-year-old Brazilian played for Bayern from 2015 to 2018, appearing in 50 matches and scoring eight goals.

The sports journalist reported that the deal does not include a loan fee and an option to buy and that Bayern will cover Costa's full salary. Costa is set to leave Turin on Monday and complete his medicals, per Romano.

Costa may have his work cut out for him after starting impressively then fading over the past two years. He accounted for just four goals in two seasons at Allianz Stadium. Bianconeri originally considered selling him outright but appears to have had a change of heart. Juve may now be hoping that the loan spell can help Costa churn out a good performance and drive up his price over the next year.

Last season, Costa got to see action only 29 times and made a good account of the opportunity with three goals and seven assists across all competitions. But injuries have stood in the way, forcing the Brazilian to miss 21 matches.

Hamstring and calf injuries were among the things that Costa had to deal with. During his time in Turin, Costa won three Scudetti. He was a two-time Bundesliga champion when he was still with Bayern.

Hansi Flick hopes to get some help from Costa after struggling to get past Hertha Berlin on Sunday, 4-3, Goal reported. Robert Lewandowski accounted for four goals and Der FCB is looking to give the Polish player some help. For as long as Costa can keep himself healthy, he could be that guy.

The Costa loan also gives Juventus some space for Federico Chiesa. Juve and Fiorentina are close to sealing a loan deal for the Italian winger, Corriere Della Sera reported.
