Broadway is set to unveil a new musical that will tackle the excitement and complexities of K-pop as an industry.

The musical "KPOP" will herald the Broadway debut of Luna, a recording artist and former member of girl group f(x). She has carved an enviable solo career with a string of hit songs following the disbandment of the group in 2021.

"Anyone who has followed my career knows that musical theatre has always been a driving passion of mine," Luna said in a press conference, Deadline reported. "Broadway represents the pinnacle of achievement in my profession, so being able to bring my culture – this Korean artform – to the fans who flock here from all over the world to see a Broadway show is the honor of my life."

The musical follows the story of "global superstars putting everything on the line for a special one-night-only concert, when one singer's inner struggle threatens to dismantle one of the biggest labels in the industry," according to Broadway World.

"Pulsing with infectious beats, electrifying choreography, and breathtaking joy, 'KPOP' is an all-consuming multimedia experience that explores the relentless discipline, raw talent, and commercial ambition behind the heart-thumping international phenomenon," the synopsis of the show read.

Tim Forbes and Joey Parnes, producers of "KPOP," announced the musical's previews will start on Oct. 13 at the Circle in the Square Theatre in New York City. The opening night will be on Nov. 20.

"The driving force of this production of 'KPOP' has always been to fuse the vibrant, joyful, and wildly entertaining world of K-pop with the powerful storytelling of a Broadway musical," Forbes and Parnes said in a joint statement obtained by Deadline. "The result is something that no one has ever seen before on stage, complete with epic production values, catchy songs, passion and heart."

The producers explained why they chose Luna for the lead role in the production.

"In the world of K-pop, no one embodies these elements better than Luna. We are thrilled to introduce Broadway audiences to one of the most exciting music superstars in the world," they said.

Broadway has slowly reopened to audiences after the COVID-19 shutdown, but not without safety protocols. It requires audience members, backstage crew, performers and theater staff to show proof of vaccination for all performances until April 30. Furthermore, autograph signings at stage doors remain canceled and shows have been asked to shorten the duration, with most productions running only up to 90 minutes.
