KEY POINTS
- Vice President Kamala Harris is a fan of K-pop group BTS
- One of the 777 accounts she is following on Twitter belongs to the popular group
- The BTS song "Boy With Luv" is also included in her Spotify playlist
Kamala Harris became the first woman, first Black and first Asian-American to become Vice President of the United States on Wednesday and got the world roaring with excitement. However, she gave Twiteratti another reason to celebrate.
The 49th Vice President of the country sent social media on overdrive when she started following the global-favorite K-pop group BTS or Bangtan Boys, according to Billboard.
Following the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, Harris took over the Vice President Twitter account. She also sent out her first tweet, which remains pinned on her account. "Ready to serve," it reads.
Surprisingly, she still found time to follow the "Dynamite" hitmakers on the social media site. While she has 7.6 million followers, she only follows 777 accounts and one of them is the official account of the Grammy-nominated Korean boy band.
BTS fans were clearly excited about the development and they were quick to share their reactions on the social media platform.
"VP KAMALA HARRIS JUST FOLLOWED @BTS_twt SHE ARMY YALL," wrote one fan. Her tweet was accompanied by a purple heart and a loudly crying face emoji.
"She's a REAL ARMY... I PURPLE U," said another in a tweet that came with a photo of Harris while taking the oath.
There were some hilarious reactions to Harris' move, too.
Harris, 56, does not only follow BTS on Twitter, she has them included in her Spotify playlist, too. Sharp-eyed ARMY members were quick to notice that her summer playlist includes the BTS song "Boy With Luv" (featuring Halsey) from the album "Map of the Soul: Persona."
Apart from other political figures, Harris is following some celebrities, including "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris, Grammy-award winner Queen Latifah, "Queer Eye" star Karamo Brown, "Star Wars" superstar Mark Hamill and more.
She is also following activist and educator Malala Yousufzai, U.S. space agency NASA, Mars Rover Curiosity, Serena Williams and many other public figures.
