Kanye West Gets Basketball-Themed Birthday Bash At Staples Center From Wife Kim Kardashian West
Kanye West received a sweet surprise from wife Kim Kardashian West for his 38th birthday. The birthday boy was blindfolded and taken to the Staples Center in Los Angeles -- home of the NBA's Lakers and Clippers -- for a basketball-themed special surprise.
“Kim rented out the Staples Center so Kanye and his boys could play an NBA-style game with real refs and Laker girls! John Legend sang the national anthem,” a source told E! News. The insider added that former NBA star John Salley was the announcer, while Houston Rockets player James Harden and rapper 2 Chainz were the coaches. Other participants included Justin Bieber, Tyga, Pusha T and all of Kanye’s friends. They played a friendly game of basketball with current and retired pros, including Russell Westbrook, John Wall, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Carmelo Anthony, Shaquille O'Neal and Scotty Pippen.
All were busy shooting videos of the unique party that appeared on the arena's huge video board.
The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star reportedly spent $110,000 to rent the Staples Center. The 34-year-old also surprised her husband by building a basketball court in their own backyard, because the rapper loves the game. Kim’s 30-year-old sister Khloe Kardashian took to Instagram and shared a photo of the couple on their way to the arena. She also wished her brother-in-law a happy birthday.
All of Kanye’s friends wore similar jerseys in black and white with “West” and “East” written on them for the two teams. The entire group posed for a picture that was shared by Kim on Instagram. The reality TV star also arranged for cheerleaders for the game. Kim and her little sister Kylie Jenner sat courtside and watched all the fun, and shared a selfie moment on Instagram. She also shared pics with Khloe and actress Malika Haqq.
Kim also ordered a special basketball-themed cake for West, complete with candles. Even little North West also donned a birthday cap with a candle in hand and wished her dad “Happy Cake Daddy.”
