Fans of West and Kardashian were shocked to hear the divorce rumors, and many are wondering why they are splitting up. A source told Page Six that it was apparently the musician’s failed presidential run that made the voluptuous reality star decide to end their nearly seven-year marriage.

“[Kardashian] needed to end the marriage for the sake of her kids and her own sanity,” the insider said.

The news outlet also said that West’s failed presidential campaign was the “final straw,” even though Kardashian reportedly tried her best to save their marriage. The source added that Kardashian has been supportive of her husband’s mental health battle, but “needed to end the marriage for the sake of her kids and her own sanity.”

Another source, meanwhile, pointed out that Kardashian never publicly endorsed West. It can be remembered that the controversial artist announced his plans to run for president on July 4, 2020 via Twitter, sending shockwaves across social media. Since then, he has made eyebrow-raising comments again on Twitter.

The “Gold Digger” hitmaker infamously referred to his mother-in-law Kris Jenner as “Kris Jong-Un,” and went on a Twitter spree claiming that the reality family was forcing him to seek psychiatric help. During his South Carolina political rally, West also emotionally revealed that he and Kardashian had thoughts of aborting their eldest, North.

"I almost killed my daughter ... So even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world, even when I didn't want to. She stood up, and she protected that child," West reportedly said at the time.
