Kanye West Wedding Speech To Kim Kardashian: Calls Wife 'The Ideal Celebrity'
Kanye West is known for random outbursts, but he scaled it back just a bit for his wedding speech. The 36-year-old rapper tied the knot with the reality-TV star Kim Kardashian on Saturday during an extravagant ceremony in Italy. Guests included Kardashian’s best friend Brittny Gastineau, John Legend and “12 Years a Slave” director Steve McQueen.
During a 20-minute speech, West told guest about the power of his new family. “The Kardashians are an industry!” he said, according to Us Weekly. This certainly isn't the first time West has praised Kim and the Kardashians. Speaking to television host Ryan Seacrest in October, West talked about his 33-year-old wife's influence on the fashion and culture scene.
"There's no way Kim Kardashian shouldn't be on the cover of Vogue. She's like the most intriguing woman right now. She's got Barbara Walters calling her, like, every day," he said.
"And collectively, we're the most influential with clothing. No one is looking at what [Barack Obama] is wearing. Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a [bikini] pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day."
That was a reference to a photo Kardashian uploaded of herself in a white bodysuit, showing off her derriere. By March, he and Kardashian finally got their coveted cover.
"We are warriors!" West said during his wedding speech. "There is not one person at this table that has not had to defend us at some point or another."
Then, in reference to a specific group of wedding guests, including his in-laws, he added, "At this table ... the combination of powers ... can make the world a better place." He called them "the most remarkable people of our time," an onlooker said.
The speech would have been incomplete without a direct reference to his wife, who he called, “the ideal celebrity … the ideal art.”
The wedding was an obvious hit with fans, even West’s speeches. "We all knew those would be coming," one guest said. "It would have been disappointing if it didn't happen.”
