Less than 24 hours after Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison Wednesday, English actress Kate Beckinsale shared a traumatic experience she’d had with the movie producer in 2001.

“The minute the door closed he started screaming,” Beckinsale wrote in an Instagram post, according to BuzzFeed.

Beckinsale shared the entire story on her account Wednesday night, along with photos of both herself and Weinstein at the 2001 “Serendipity” premiere. In her caption, she claimed that following the premiere on Oct. 5, 2001, Weinstein invited her to his home for a “play date” between their two young daughters, which turned out to be an excuse for bringing her to his home to yell at her about her choice of outfit on the red carpet.

Beckinsale said she and her other cast members at the time already felt strange about hosting a movie premiere so soon after 9/11, but since Weinstein insisted, she decided to wear a more modest suit. Weinstein did not approve and instead “screamed” profanities at her for not wearing a “tight dress.”

“The shock made me burst into tears,” Beckinsale wrote. “I managed to get myself and my child out of there and yes that was one of many experiences I had that there was no recourse for, and falls under no felony.”

Beckinsale admitted to Variety in October 2017 that she had her first negative encounter upon meeting Weinstein when she was only 17.

“A few years later he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting,” she said. “I realized he couldn’t remember if he had assaulted me or not.”

In her recent Instagram post, Beckinsale said that after hearing Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison she felt a “huge relief” to her “on behalf of all the women he sexually assaulted or raped.”

“Having said that, the crimes that are not crimes, the inhumane bullying and sick covert abuse for which there is STILL no recourse no matter who you tell (and I did tell), these too need to go,” she wrote.

Beckinsale ended her post expressing sentiment for continued growth in the industry.

“I hope and pray that we as an industry can start to actually outlaw all abuses of power and expose them and eliminate them, for all genders, forever,” she said.
