Kate Middleton Channels Sister-In-Law Meghan Markle During Event By Wearing This
Kate Middleton seemed to channel Meghan Markle during a recent outing.
The Duchess of Cambridge tends to dress more modestly compared to her sister-in-law Meghan Markle. However, when Middleton stepped out on Wednesday for her solo visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum, the royal mom-of-three wowed in a checkered off-the-shoulder Erdem dress.
According to Carly Read, a journalist for Express, Middleton may have taken some cues from Markle. The Duchess of Sussex was the first royal to land on the tabloids earlier this year for wearing a pink off-the-shoulder dress during Trooping the Colour 2018.
Some deemed the dress as too sexy for the event because it showed more of the royal's skin than usual. Thus, many were convinced that Markle broke royal protocol by wearing the dress.
"In the past, we have seen female royals wearing conservative dress, much like that which you would see at a British wedding: wearing closed-toe shoes, stockings, hats and dresses or skirts with a modest hemline and with sleeves," Myka Meier explained.
"It's very unusual to see a member of the royal household baring her shoulders," Mark Heyes said on ITV's "Lorraine." "Especially at a daytime event like that. It's not that it's not allowed, but maybe it's a sign of things to come."
On the other hand, Joe Little, the Majesty magazine managing editor praised Markle's look. For him, the new royal didn't break any rules for opting to wear the said design.
"It was deemed by some people to be a bit revealing, but personally I couldn't see any harm in it," Little told People. "She looked great. There are no rules for the birthday parade, but I'm not sure it matters."
Aside from comparing Middleton to Markle, the Duchess of Cambridge's edgy dress was reminiscent to Queen Elizabeth II's outfit when the monarch met the late American jazz pianist Duke Ellington. But, Her Majesty took her outfit to the next level by pairing it with a matching headpiece.
Middleton and Markle are expected to dress modestly for Princess Eugenie's royal wedding on Friday. The two duchesses may opt to recycle an outfit for the event to ensure that they won't upstage the bride.
