Kate Middleton may not be chosen as the godmother of Pippa Middleton’s son, Arthur.

Jess Sheldon, a journalist for Express, claimed that the Duchess of Cambridge may not be chosen as one of Arthur’s godparents because of what the Church of England dictates. The role of godparents is to watch over the child’s spiritual development should anything happen to their parents.

Middleton and Prince William asked some of their closest friends to become the godparents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. However, Pippa and Prince Harry have not been chosen for the important role.

Royal correspondent Robert Jobson previously explained why Middleton and Prince William didn’t choose their respective siblings and said that this is because it is understood that they already spend a lot of time with their niece and nephews.

Fellow royal correspondent Claudia Joseph seconded Jobson's statement, telling USA Today, “Pippa is his only aunt and Harry is one of his two uncles so they already have very important roles in [Prince George's] life.”

This suggests that when Arthur is baptized, the Duchess of Cambridge may not be one of his godmothers. It is unclear if Prince William will be given the important role. As of late, Arthur has not yet been christened, and this is quite different from what the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose to do with their kids.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis were baptized two to three months after they were born. Arthur was born in October, which means that Arthur is almost 4 months old. Prince George’s christening was held at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace in London on Oct. 23, 2013. He was born on July 22, 2013.

Princess Charlotte was baptized at St. Mary Magdalene Church on July 5, 2015, and she was born on May 2, 2015. Prince Louis was christened at St. James’s Palace on July on July 9, 2018, and he was born on April 23, 2018.
