Kate Middleton May Receive These Titles If William Dies Before Becoming King
Kate Middleton will receive two different titles if Prince William will die before he is crowned king.
According to the online forum site Quora, the Duchess of Cambridge will never be called queen mother, queen consort or queen if Prince William passed away before his coronation for the simple reason that she has not yet been crowned queen.
However, if Prince William has already been named king and he suddenly passes, Middleton will be known as either the Dowager Duchess of Cambridge or the Dowager Princess of Wales. The mom of three’s title will depend on what the Duke of Cambridge’s title is at the time of his death.
Deanna Eppers, an ardent follower of the British royal family, also speculated on the possibility of Middleton being named a princess. She said that this will assure the duchess’ precedence as being the mother of the next king, Prince George. However, this is merely a possibility and not a certainty.
A similar thing may also be faced by Camilla Parker Bowles in the event that Prince Charles dies before he is named king or during his reign. According to Reader’s Digest, Camilla will be known as the Dowager Queen if Prince Charles will die while he is still the head of the monarchy.
For instance, the mother of King George VI was Queen Mary, the Queen Consort of King George V. When the latter died, King Edward VIII ascended to the throne. Queen Mary also became known as Queen Mary, the Dowager Queen.
Queen Elizabeth was also known as the Queen Consort of King George VI. When he died, the Queen became the monarch and was known as Queen Elizabeth, Dowager Queen. She, later on, took the style of being called Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother to avoid confusion.
As of late, Queen Elizabeth II is still the reigning monarch. She may be showing signs of slowing down, but she will never abdicate in favor of Prince Charles.
