Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle Are ‘Free’ Royals Due To Queen Mary
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are enjoying their freedom as members of the royal family thanks to Queen Mary.
In the Netflix documentary “Royal House of Windsor,” it has been revealed that Queen Mary paved the way to rebrand the royal family from being German to British. The Queen and her husband, King George V, went to meet the working-class British in their attempt to dispel anti-monarchy anger stemming from the United Kingdom’s links to Russian monarchy.
This move by the royal couple made it possible for the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex to enjoy their freedom today.
Professor Jane Ridley, a historian, told Express that it was King George V was encouraged by his wife to meet with the British working-class and relate to them so that he can win them over.
“George is the first modern monarch, not the first monarch to just go out in a big car waving at people but to get out of the car and visit factories and go into people’s home and go down coal mines and talk to people to get out there and be seen,” Ridley said.
Miranda Carter, a fellow historian, added, “This is a completely different notion of monarchy it’s a total change.”
Several photos of the royals can be seen greeting people in the streets and shaking the hands of commoners have earned them a growing royal fanbase across the globe. But this didn’t save them from talks regarding the abolishment of the monarchy due to their ties with Germany.
In related news, Markle and Middleton were able to meet some of their supporters during their recent engagements. The “Suits” alum was accompanied by Prince Harry during their trip to Sussex. The mom of three, on the other hand, went back to work after her six-month maternity leave last week and without Prince William.
The two female royals are expected to attend Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s royal wedding on Oct. 12.
