Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle Rarely Seen Using Mobile Phones For This Reason
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are rarely seen in their mobile phones for a reason.
The Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex are rarely seen checking their phones in public. While most people have a hard time putting their mobile phones down, the royal family doesn’t have this problem. According to etiquette expert Myka Meier, the members of the royal fold don’t want to be seen as unprofessional by getting caught using their mobile phones.
“Just like most high-ranking professional would do in a formal business environment, the royals leave their phones in a pocket or handbag,” Meier told Thrive Global.
Mariek Vanden Abeele, a professor of information and communication science at Tilburg University in the Netherlands and a specialist on the social impact of mobile devices, explained how cellphones affect our daily lives.
“Technology that is so social, so geared towards being in touch constantly, is also very disruptive to our in-person social contact. Online closeness comes at the expense of offline closeness,” she said.
Markle has another reason why she doesn’t check her phone often. The pregnant royal told a fan at Bondi Beach during their trip to Australia that she felt “freer” now that she’s no longer active on social media. The fan even shared Markle’s beautiful quote about flattery and criticism running through the same filter.
Markle deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts months before she married Prince Harry. Kensington Palace explained that she was grateful to those who followed her social media accounts over the years but decided to delete them because she has not been using them for a while.
At the moment, Markle, Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate Middleton do not have their own social media accounts. They are present on Twitter and Instagram via the Kensington Palace account.
Just recently, the fab four lost at least 150,000 followers. It was believed to be a glitch from the site as the social media platform is taking steps to limit fake accounts.
Instagram’s spokesperson issued a statement about the incident saying that they are aware of it and are working to fix it. Twitter also announced earlier that their follower counts might change on a regular basis as they “proactively identify and challenge problematic account.”
