Kate Middleton Revelation: Duchess’ Parents Could Be Given Earldom Royal Titles, Not Dukedom
KEY POINTS
- Kate Middleton's parents haven't been given royal titles
- Michael Middleton could receive earldom
- The monarch could give Kate Middleton's parents royal titles
Kate Middleton’s parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, have not received royal titles from Queen Elizabeth even though the Duchess of Cambridge has already been married to Prince William for years.
In 2013, royal expert Christopher Wilson told The Daily Telegraph that this is unusual because Michael is the first grandfather of a future king to not bear a royal title.
“Indeed, not for 1,000 years has our sovereign had a commoner among its grandparents. Historically, grandfathers of future monarchs have been bluebloods with their own title, the roll-call down the ages heavily spattered with kings, princes, and dukes,” he said.
Wilson said that giving Middleton’s parents royal titles is actually incredibly easy. All it takes is for Queen Elizabeth to inform the prime minister that she is recommending Michael to be elevated to the Lords.
“[The Prime Minister] unless deaf, would take this broad hint and suggest brightly to his sovereign that it would be a jolly good idea to ennoble the Middletons. Her Majesty would accept this suggestion, and with very little procedural wrangling the thing would be done,” he said.
Wilson added that if and when Michael is given a royal title, he will not receive a dukedom because it is too much and one should be colossally reached to support such a title. Rather, Michael could be given a lesser title like an earldom.
Middleton’s father also made headlines recently after his previous statement about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s relationship was revisited. Years ago, Michael didn’t think that his daughter could end up with Prince William even though he said that being the future king’s in-laws would be great.
During his interview with The Statesman, Michael said that his daughter and Prince William were just friends. He also said that they lived with two other people in their apartment, which meant that they couldn’t have been romantically involved.
However, it didn’t take Middleton very long to realize that he was actually wrong. While studying at St. Andrew’s University, Prince William and Middleton became a couple.
