Kate Middleton upgraded Princess Diana’s sapphire earrings to match her engagement ring.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked stunning when she joined her husband Prince William at the launch of the National Emergencies Trust. The charity aims to provide emergency response to natural disasters.

Middleton looked gorgeous in her blue Emilia Wickstead dress accented with a thick belt at the waist. She paired her ensemble with a poppy brooch, black patent Jimmy Choo pumps and a crocodile Aspinal of London clutch. The duchess wore her hair in her signature blow dry curls.

However, her earrings didn’t go unnoticed to royal fans who quickly distinguished the pair as among Princess Diana’s collection. According to Page Six, Middleton put a special spin on her mother-in-law’s sapphire earrings.

Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom originally wore the diamond-encircled sapphires as simple studs. She was also photographed wearing them with a matching stone cluster to make them two-tiered.

Meanwhile, Middleton remodeled them and wore them as single drops. The earrings have perfectly matched the engagement ring she received from Prince William, which also once belonged to Princess Diana. Prince William gifted Middleton the sapphire earrings in 2011, the same year they got married.

It took almost a decade for Prince William to propose to Middleton. During their engagement interview, the future king confessed that he had been carrying Princess Diana’s engagement ring for about three weeks before he popped the big question to Middleton. He added that he was very careful because he knew he would be in a lot of trouble if he would lose it.

Middleton said that she hoped she could look after the ring because it was “very, very special.” Prince William then quipped, “If she loses it, she’s in big trouble.”

Prince William will be undertaking a solo trip to Kuwait and Oman at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth office. He will be in the Middle East from Dec. 1 to Dec. 4. However, prior to that, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be attending the Royal Variety Performance at the Palladium Theatre in London on Nov. 18.
