Picking out a wedding dress is an exciting time for any bride, but for Kate Middleton, the process turned into a nightmare. Unlike the average bride, Kate was marrying Prince William, a member of the royal, which meant millions of people were interested in knowing every detail about their ceremony.

Months before their 2011 royal wedding, Kate attempted to hide details about her big day from the press. At the time, the Duchess of Cambridge wanted to keep her wedding dress designer a secret, but the details were leaked to the public.

During the Channel 5 documentary, “Secrets of the Royal Dressmaker,” royal biographer, Katie Nicholl claimed Kate became emotional when the press revealed Alexander McQueen designer, Sarah Burton was making her wedding dress.

“Behind the scenes, I think that caused tears at the Palace because Kate had done everything she could to keep the wedding dress a secret.”

Following the leaked details, The Sunday Times claimed Kate and Sarah combined their ideas to make her the perfect wedding dress. “A fashion source said that the dress will be a combination of Middleton’s own design ideas, and Burton’s deep knowledge and understanding of high fashion.”

Although Kate was devastated that she couldn’t keep the designer of her wedding dress a secret, fans, and commentators were in awe of the beautiful gown when she arrived at Westminster Abbey on her big day.

With Burton’s help, Kate wore an ivory gown featuring lace sleeves and a satin bodice that will gown down in royal wedding fashion history.

In April 2019, Prince William and Kate celebrated the eighth wedding anniversary. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are now parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
