Kate Middleton’s ‘Awkward Moment’ With Carole Middleton During Prince William Engagement Revealed
Kate Middleton shared an awkward moment with her mom, Carole Middleton, during the time that she got engaged to Prince William.
In the unearthed footage from their 2010 engagement interview, Prince William revealed that he decided to ask Middleton to marry him before he asked her dad Michael Middleton.
“I was torn between asking Kate’s dad first and then the realization that he might actually say no. So I thought if I asked Kate first, then he really can’t say no. So, I went about it in that way. I managed to speak to Mike soon after it happened really and then it happened from there,” he said.
After Prince William asked Michael’s permission to marry Middleton, it was Carole’s turn to know that her daughter will soon tie the knot. The Duchess of Cambridge said that there was a moment after her trip to Scotland that she and Carole just stared at each other. That time, she didn’t know if her dad told her mom that Prince William had already proposed to her.
“I think as any mother would be, she was absolutely over the moon. Actually, we had quite an awkward situation, because I knew and I knew that William had asked my father. So I came back from Scotland and my mother didn’t make it clear to me about whether she knew about it or not. So both of us were looking at each other and feeling quite awkward about it. But it was amazing to tell her and she is happy for us,” she said.
During the same interview, Middleton gushed over her family and said that they have a very close relationship with each other.
“Family is very important to me – and I hope we’ll be able to have our happy family ourselves. They’ve been absolutely great over the years and we see a lot of each other.
After tying the knot on April 29, 2011, Middleton got her wish. Two years later, she gave birth to Prince George. In 2015, Princess Charlotte was born, and she most recently welcomed Prince Louis.
