Katy Perry, Russell Brand Divorce Finalized: Couple Moving On
Katy Perry and Russell Brand have been granted a divorce by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marc Marmaro. Due to California law, the famous couple must wait six months after filing for divorce for it to be finalized. The pair will become legally single again until July.
According to Fox affiliate, Kasa 2, Katy Perry, 27, had filed paperwork the previous day stating that the estranged couple has agreed on all financial issues. TMZ had reported that Brand is entitled to approximately $20 million of Katy Perry's money. The filings have shown that Katy Perry will be keeping all the money she made while married to Russell Brand, 36. The singer will also be taking back her maiden name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson.
The American pop star and the British actor were married in a Hindu ceremony in India in October 2010. The pair had got engaged that New Year's Eve. Their wedding guests had been treated to a three-day adventure in a wilderness camp, as well as a tiger safari ride.
Rumors of Perry and Brand's troubled marriage started in 2011. It was reported by Us Weekly that Perry believed that Brand didn't respect her parent's beliefs or her friends. The pair had also been spending time apart, including Christmas. Katy Perry was seen on a beach in Hawaii on Christmas, sans husband and wedding ring. ET also reported the Russell Brand had been seen walking around London without his ring on.
In late December 2011 Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry, citing irreconcilable differences. Brand released a statement as well saying, Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends.
Katy Perry was recently heard giving shout outs to Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow over Super Bowl Weekend. She also dedicated her song Peacock to the football player. Russell Brand has also been reportedly moving on. Rumors have been swirling that Brand has been texting New Girl star Zooey Deschanel, although the actress shot down the rumors earlier this week.
Katy Perry will be performing her hit song Firework at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. The song is nominated for two awards.
