  • Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock's marriage had been "on the rocks for a long time" before they split, a report says
  • Blackstock had become "extremely jealous" of her success and income and "made her know it," according to the report
  • Clarkson allegedly grew concerned that Blackstock was using her for her money

Kelly Clarkson and her estranged husband Brandon Blackstock's marriage had broken down due to his jealousy of her success, a report has claimed.

Clarkson cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split when she filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage. An unnamed insider who recently spoke with Us Weekly claimed that the former couple's marriage "had been on the rocks for a long time" after Blackstock became resentful over the considerable difference in their income and success.

"She was the high-income earner with a wildly successful talk show, and is the star of another hit show 'The Voice.' Brandon was extremely jealous of it and made her know it," the source told the outlet.

However, following their separation, Clarkson "can finally enjoy her success without feeling ashamed," the source added. "Kelly doesn’t take credit for her success but shares it with the team she works with. It’s just who she is."

The "American Idol" winner earns $1.9 million a month — a sum that includes her salary for her talk show "The Kelly Clarkson Show" and her role on "The Voice," according to the court documents obtained by Us Weekly.

The source claimed that prior to her divorce filing, Clarkson had become concerned that Blackstock "was just using her for her money and lifestyle."

"The marriage was really, really awful at the end. … Kelly felt that she could no longer trust Brandon. She had a lot of questions that he just couldn’t answer," the source said, alleging that there was "tremendous resentment" between them.

"She just wasn’t willing to look the other way anymore," the insider added.

There had been "so much tension" in their family home before the pair decided to call it quits last year, according to the source. As a result, Clarkson, who purchased a $5.4 million property in Toluca Lake, California, in June, is reportedly appreciative of her fresh start in a new home with her and Blackstock's two kids — daughter River Rose, 7, and son Remington Alexander, 5.

"Buying a new house for the kids was also a new beginning for Kelly," the insider said. "It was freedom."

Last month, the singer was ordered to pay her estranged husband $150,000 per month in spousal support, with an additional $45,601 per month in child support. The agreement was temporary until the exes reached a final settlement.

However, Clarkson scored a major victory in her divorce battle with Blackstock last week after a judge ruled that the prenup she and the music manager signed was valid. Initially, Blackstock contested it and wanted to split between them the properties and income she had acquired and earned while they were married.

However, with the latest ruling, Clarkson will get to keep the bulk of her assets and income, including the Montana ranch they had been fighting over. The singer reportedly wants to go "full steam ahead" in selling the property, which she deemed a "financial burden" in court documents.

Blackstock, who has been living in the ranch, previously objected to his estranged wife's request to unload it.
