Kelly Clarkson and her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock put on a united front for their kids this summer and spent time together as a family despite their divorce.
During an appearance on the "Today" show Tuesday, Clarkson, 40, revealed that she left Los Angeles to spend her summer vacation with her daughter River, 8, and son Remington, 6, at her ranch in Montana, where her ex-husband also resides.
"It's obviously been a rough couple [of] years so it was really important to me to, like, shut down for a minute," she told co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Carson Daly in the interview. "I literally four-wheeled in the mountains. I have a lot of water on my property so my sister, my nephew and I and a couple of friends just spent the whole summer in the mountains, just hanging out in nature."
"The kids were with me and with their dad," Clarkson continued. "It was nice because they usually have to travel a lot because of our separation so we were both in Montana so, it was the first time I think my kids felt more centered as well."
Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in March.
Following their spit, the exes were embroiled in a battle over the Montana ranch. The "Kelly Clarkson Show" host initially wanted to sell the property because the maintenance was too costly, but the talent manager wanted to keep it, citing his plans to use it for his new career as a rodeo manager.
But after a judge ruled that their prenuptial agreement was valid, Blackstock's argument that the ranch was marital property was rejected, and a court awarded the control of the Montana ranch to Clarkson in October 2021.
Legal documents obtained by ET revealed that the singer agreed to give Blackstock a 5.12% ownership of Warren Peak Ranch, which is valued at $17.75 million. Blackstock's ownership interest was estimated to be worth around $908,800, according to the court papers.
Blackstock eventually moved out of the ranch, which a court settlement required him to do by June 1. He allegedly "wanted to fight the order but was ultimately talked out of it," an anonymous source told Us Weekly.
In their divorce, Clarkson was granted primary custody of their two kids. But she and Blackstock have joint physical custody of them, with the talent manager getting their son and daughter one weekend a month.
