Kelly Preston died at her and husband John Travolta's home in Clearwater, Florida, following a two-year battle with breast cancer, her death certificate has revealed.
Preston passed away on July 12 at the age of 57, and her body was transferred to a nearby funeral home, Us Weekly reported. The actress was cremated at the Brooksville Crematory in Brooksville, Florida.
Preston is survived by her actor husband, 66, and their children, Ella, 20, and Benjamin, 9.
Paying tribute to his wife on Instagram last month, Travolta revealed that his wife chose to keep her illness private all throughout her two-year battle with the disease.
“Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered,” he said. “I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
Preston and Travolta got married in September 1991, four years after meeting on the sets of “The Experts.”
The couple had earlier lost their eldest son, Jett, following a seizure at their family home in the Bahamas in 2009. The 16-year-old hit his head on a bathtub during his seizure.
In 2012, Travolta spoke to BBC Breakfast about Jett’s death and said he nearly retired from acting following the teenager’s untimely demise.
However, he finally decided to get back into acting with the film “Savages.”
“I lost my son a few years ago and I had been having quite a time of that,” Travolta said, adding, “and after three years getting a lot of support from my church and a lot of support from people, fans, family I decided that it was OK to go back to work because I'd even thought of retiring at one point because it felt like too much.”
Preston was best known for her roles in the 1996 film “Jerry Maguire,” the Arnold Schwarzenegger-Danny DeVito comedy “Twins” and rom-com “For the Love of the Game” alongside Kevin Costner. She also starred in the 2018 crime drama “Gotti” opposite her husband.
Preston appeared in Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved” music video in as well. Her most recent work includes the Jules Williamson comedy “Off the Rails” with Dame Judi Dench.
