‘Kevin Can Wait’ Season 2 Spoilers: Will Kevin, Vanessa Become A Couple?

Kevin (Kevin James) will not be getting into a relationship with Vanessa (Leah Remini) in “Kevin Can Wait” Season 2.

While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Rob Long said that they are trying their hardest to keep the two characters’ relationship strictly professional. A few weeks ago, it was announced by CBS that James’ onscreen partner, Erinn Hayes, will no longer return for Season 2. Her character, Donna, was killed off. When Season 2 premieres, it will will be a year since Donna passed away.

This has led fans to speculate on the possibility of Vanessa becoming Kevin’s new love interest. After all, she will be there with him as he mourns his wife’s shocking demise.

“Honestly, we’re trying not to put them in a romantic relationship. I know that sounds crazy! These two actors have incredibly fun chemistry together, but they’re also great antagonists. So as much as there’s a lot of snap and crackle on the screen, there’s a lot of fun in watching two people not get along,” he said.

Long also urged fans not to expect that anything romantic will happen between the Kevin and Vanessa. However, this also doesn’t mean that a possible relationship between the two won’t ever happen in “Kevin Can Wait.” After all, Long and his team look at the co-stars and storylines at every table read session.

“We’re just really enjoying these two people working together and having a working relationship, which is something this series never really dealt with before. We kind of look at each other after every table read as the story’s breaking and think, ‘OK, well, let’s keep doing this,’” he said.

Meanwhile, there are no plans to discuss Donna’s death in “Kevin Can Wait” Season 2. “We haven’t addressed it in the story. For right now, it’s really a story about a family reeling without a mother and Kevin dusting himself off and rejoining the work force,” Long told TV Line last month.

“Kevin Can Wait” Season 2 will premiere on CBS on Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. EDT right after “Young Sheldon” Season 1.
