Kevin Spacey Fired From ‘House Of Cards’ After Facing Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Goodbye, Frank Underwood. Netflix and Media Rights Capital (MRC) have decided to give Kevin Spacey the boot from “House of Cards” in light of the many sexual allegations that have been hurled against him over the past month.
The show is in the middle of its production for Season 6, but it was suspended indefinitely after actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of sexual misconduct dating back to 1986.
Spacey apologized to Rapp then confessed to being gay. However, his troubles did not end there since several “House of Cards” crew members came forward and accused him of making their work environment very toxic with his “predatory” actions.
Because of this, Netflix and MRC finally decided to let its lead star and executive producer go, according to Business Insider.
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of ‘House of Cards’ that includes Kevin Spacey,” Netflix said in a statement. “We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.”
“We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film ‘Gore,’ which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey,” the statement added.
“Gore” is a biopic which stars Spacey as the writer Gore Vidal. The movie has just recently wrapped up shooting.
Meanwhile, MRC also confirmed that Spacey is no longer connected with “House of Cards.”
“While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey’s behavior on the set of ‘House of Cards,’ he has been suspended, effective immediately,” the statement reads. “MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.”
Season 6 will be the last season for “House of Cards,” and it will probably shift the attention to Frank’s wife, Claire (Robin Wright). Variety even reported that MRC is currently working on multiple ideas for a potential “House of Cards” spinoff.
They are currently in the early stages of development, and so far, ideas have started forming around Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), the political aide-de-camp of Frank Underwood (Spacey). Eric Roth, who served as an executive producer for the first four seasons of “House of Cards,” is set to write the script.
