Kevin Spacey Sexual Assault: Anthony Rapp Wanted Revelation To Create An ‘Impact’

A lot of bad things happen behind closed doors in Hollywood, and people in power often abuse their positions to get what they want. So when “Star Trek: Discovery” actor Anthony Rapp opened up about his sexual abuse situation with “House of Cards” actor Kevin Spacey, he wanted to change the system.

“There are so many different shades and degrees of this kind of behavior and these kinds of situations, but the most insidious to me is when it’s an abuse of power,” he told Attitude Magazine.

“I did it to stand on the shoulders of all that I was witnessing around me. I was hopeful that sharing my story would have an impact,” he continued.

Rapp added that his revelation came at the right time, because it earned “a meaningful impact.” He suspected that if the accusation came earlier, it probably wouldn’t have had the same meaning.

Rapp knew that his exposure of Spacey made a step in the right direction because bigwigs in Hollywood are now being held responsible for their actions. But it would take several more steps before sexual abuse is truly obliterated.

“No matter what, I would urge anybody to stay safe, take care of themselves and each other and to get help and support when they need it,” he said. “There is no such thing as truly being alone, which is what I hope this moment demonstrates - that there is strength in numbers.”

Rapp opened up about his experience with Spacey during an interview with Buzzfeed. “My stomach churns,” Rapp said. “I still to this day can't wrap my head around so many aspects of it. It’s just deeply confusing to me.”

When he was only 14, Rapp recalled that Spacey, who was 26 at the time, “picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold,” and he was aware that the older actor wanted “to get with me sexually.”

For his part, Spacey apologized for his actions although he said he could not remember the incident Rapp was referring to. After, several more individuals came out and accused Spacey of sexual misconduct. As a result, he was fired from his acting gigs and he has now checked himself into rehab.
