Kim Jong-il's Body on Display in North Korean Capital
The body of Kim Jong-il was put on display for party officials in Pyongyang, North Korea on Tuesday.
Kim lay in state inside a glass coffin at the Kumsusan mausoleum, where his son, Kim Jong-un, paid his respects.

Comrade Kim [Jong-un] paid his respect with a grief-stricken heart, North Korea's official news agency, K.C.N.A., said in a dispatch.
Now that Kim Jong-un is in power, the government has begun to create an ideology around its new leader. By most reports, Kim Jong-un was not as prepared to be Supreme Leader as his father was when he took power in 1994, so the state moved quickly to begin building a mythology similar to that of Kim Jong-un's father and grandfather.
Kim Jong-un is now being called the spiritual pillar and the lighthouse of hope for the military and the people, and there have been songs and epic ballads composed in his honor.
The respected comrade Kim Jong-un's ideology equals General Kim Jong-il's ideology and will, state radio said.
World leaders such as China's Hu Jintao and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev sent their condolences to Pyongyang on Monday. Additionally, South Korea, which went on military alert immediately after the news of Kim Jong-il's death was announced, sent well wishes to the North in hopes of beginning on good terms with the country's new leadership.
We offer our condolences to the North Korean people, the South Korean government said in a statement. We hope that North Korea will recover stability soon and South and North Korea can work together for peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula.
