‘Kingdom Hearts 3,’ ‘Final fantasy VII Remake’ Won't Be Released In 2017
Game developer Square Enix still hasn’t given a release date for “Kingdom Hearts 3” or “Final Fantasy VII Remake,” and it looks like fans might have to wait until 2018.
An investors document, which was shared first on NeoGAF, shows Square Enix’s most recent released titles, as well as upcoming games for fiscal year 2018 that began at the start of this April. The document confirmed 2017 release dates for other games like “Dragon Quest XI” and “Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.”
Unfortunately, “Kingdom Hearts 3” and “Final Fantasy VII Remake” didn’t have release dates at all. The document only indicated that they’re both under the vague “FY2018 and beyond” bracket. The document listed the upcoming Marvel game without a release date as well, but that’s understandable considering that Square Enix’s partnership with Marvel was only announced back in January, as pointed out by GameSpot.
This will surely be a disappointment to a lot of fans since a many people were expecting “Kingdom Hearts 3” to be released before the end of 2017. The highly anticipated sequel was first announced way back in 2013, while “Final Fantasy VII Remake” was announced in 2015.
Both upcoming titles are being directed by Tetsuya Nomura. Back in January, the director admitted that neither games were ready to be released. “While we are making them, I apologize that the wait will be be a bit longer for ‘Kingdom Hearts III’ and ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake.’ I am very sorry, but to that degree I will make a game that will meet your expectations,” Nomura said.
Nomura and Square Enix appear to be taking their time to make sure that both projects will meet fans’ expectations. The delay may annoy a lot of fans, but it does mean that Square Enix has time to polish everything out before the titles are released.
