The world watched Jacob Elordi and admired his body in Netflix's "Kissing Booth," but the young actor does not want to be identified by his six-pack abs alone.
Elordi rose to fame after starring in "Kissing Booth." He admitted that he worked out so hard for the role because he wanted to give his character the perfect body based on the script. However, he was bothered when the world couldn't stop talking about his body.
"At the time [I shot 'The Kissing Booth'], I was super young and got thrown into a world where everyone wanted to talk about my body … it really [explicit] bothered me,” he told Men’s Health on Wednesday.
"I don’t identify with that whatsoever. I was trying to prove myself and be known as an actor. It was so much working out and I hated every second of it.”
Elordi admitted that he was “terribly nervous” and didn’t want to fail the picture of the character based on the script, so he developed an intense workout routine. He went to gym twice a day, every single day.
His fitness regimen was all about lifting heavy weights, gaining muscles and looking well-defined when the camera focused on him. His workout paid off because the world was enamored with his physique, but the 23-year-old actor didn't like the excessive attention toward his body.
Elordi decided to stop working out for "Kissing Booth 2." It worked in his favor because the sequel focused more on his emotional evolution and not physical traits.
He is back into working out again, but Elordi changed his routine with fitness in his mind. He now focuses on doing things like yoga and pilates because he wants to be healthy for his future family.
"Now, it’s more functional. I wanted to be a blank canvas and be more concerned with my health," he explained. "I wanted to be able to walk and run with my grandkids when I’m eighty-something, you know? It’s more about being functional as opposed to actual aesthetics.”
Meanwhile, in a previous interview, Elordi recalled his previous auditions and confessed that "The Kissing Booth" was his 100th. He was overjoyed after getting Noah's role because "it felt like a lot of hard work was finally paying off.”
“Kissing Booth 3” is already in post-production and will be coming out in 2021.
