Knicks Rumors: Upcoming Young Free Agent Drawing Interest From Rebuilding Teams
KEY POINTS
- The Pistons are reportedly interested in acquiring Mitchell Robinson from the Knicks
- Robinson’s current numbers are hardly impressive, but he has room to improve
- Robinson could be a good fit alongside Cade Cunningham
The NBA trade deadline ends in a couple of days, and one familiar name from the New York Knicks has been yet again mentioned–Mitchell Robinson.
Multiple teams have been linked to the 23-year-old center, one of them is the Detroit Pistons, according to Ian Begley of SNY.
Begley added that while Robinson would make sense for the Pistons, the degree of interest is unknown.
Hence, there is no certainty as to when the Pistons could make their move. They could either make a push before the deadline or wait until the summer when the 36th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft becomes an unrestricted free agent.
There is a chance that the Knicks may continue to hang on to him, but all that will depend on head coach Tom Thibodeau.
Considering the 7-footer is the only reliable center on the Knicks’ fold, a new deal could be struck instead.
The only way New York may consider a trade is if they get someone of similar or better value for the Florida native.
At present, the Pistons are relying on Isaiah Stewart although he is best suited as a power forward.
Furthermore, Robinson would be a great complement to Cade Cunningham. One can imagine how the two would blend in perfectly, particularly in pick-and-roll situations.
So far this season, Robinson has played in 48 games averaging 8.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 25.1 minutes of action.
There is no doubt he could do more, but that depends on several factors such as development and more playing time.
