Kristin Chenoweth Says Hallmark’s ‘Christmas Love Story’ Is ‘A Very Personal’ Movie
Hallmark Channel viewers will get to see Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth star in Saturday night’s new holiday movie, “A Christmas Love Story.” However, this is far from her first Christmas movie.
“I don't know what it is about me that screams Christmas, but apparently something does, and it does happen to be my favorite holiday, so it worked out,” Chenoweth told International Business Times during an interview earlier this fall.
Chenoweth, whose festive film credits include “Deck The Halls,” “Four Christmases” and “12 Men of Christmas,” said that she was excited about Hallmark’s “A Christmas Love Story” because it’s “a very personal story” about “a subject that is very important” to her, but she couldn’t reveal much without spoiling it.
Chenoweth plays former Broadway star Katherine Clark, who is a choir director prepping for a Christmas show. She finds a new teenage vocalist, Danny (Kevin Quinn), and must convince his widowed father (Scott Wolf) that choir would be a good idea for his son. Of course, there are a few other twists and turns along the way, including a major secret that Danny is hiding.
The seasonal movie reunites Chenoweth with “GCB” actress Jennifer Aspen, who also executive produced the project. It also involves Chenoweth’s friend, singer-songwriter, Chely Wright.
“I asked her to write the title song with me, for that movie, and we did. People will be able to hear that as well. That's a first for me. A movie I'm in that actually has one of my songs in it,” Chenoweth, who released her latest album “For The Girls” in September, explained to IBT.
The star, who TV fans might recognize from “Glee” or “Pushing Daisies,” said she’s particularly happy to be starring in a Hallmark movie. “I'm very, very honored to be associated with Hallmark,” she said. “When I go home to Oklahoma, that's what the TV's on. Everybody can watch Hallmark movies, and this one, in particular, has become their Hall of Fame movie this year. I'm very, very proud of it.”
Of course, that’s not the end of the Christmas movies for Chenoweth. She’ll be teaming up with Netflix for “Holidate” next year. “I'm very proud of that, too. I play a little naughty character in it,” she teased. “And Emma Roberts is the star of this one, and she is the star. Talk about girl power. We had Jessica Capshaw and Frances Fisher and myself in it, and we just had a blast. I actually miss them. We all become a family. That's the thing about doing movies, you become very familial.”
“A Christmas Love Story” premieres Saturday at 8 p.m. EST on the Hallmark Channel.
