Labor Day 2017: 8 TV Marathons Worth Watching
Labor Day means that many people will be spending Monday, Sept. 4 relaxing. While some will be going out to the beach or shopping, there’s nothing wrong with spending a little time in front of the TV. Luckily, there are plenty of marathons to keep you entertained on Labor Day.
“Harry Potter” movies on Freeform until 9 p.m.
Who doesn’t love a “Harry Potter” Weekend? Freeform has been playing the magical films all weekend and will continue Monday. The timing is actually perfect. As Potterheads know, Sept. 1 marked the first day of Hogwarts for Harry Potter’s son, Albus Severus.
“Broad City” on Comedy Central all day
Abbi and Ilana are coming back! Prepare for Season 4 of the beloved Comedy Central show, which follows two women trying to navigate their lives in New York, by binge-watching the entire first three seasons. The network’s #BroadCityReplay will be promoting the new season, which premieres Sept. 13.
“Star Trek: Voyager” on BBC America all day
“Star Trek: Discovery” premieres later this month, but there is still plenty to love about the old series. Check out “Orange is the New Black” star Kate Mulgrew as the first female captain on a “Star Trek” series.
“The Walking Dead” on AMC until 9 p.m.
It seems like everyone is watching the zombie drama, and they’re about to start talking about it again. Season 8 premieres Oct. 22. This marathon won’t cover everything you need to binge the series, but it will let viewers relive the last half of Season 5 and the first half of Season 6.
“Banshee” on Cinemax from 12 p.m. to midnight
This action series has a cult audience and a storyline interesting enough to keep you glued to the couch throughout Labor Day. The show follows an ex-con man (Anthony Starr) who tries to hide in the small town of Banshee. He takes on the identity of the town’s incoming sheriff and attempts to reunite with an old lover/partner-in-crime.
“Insecure” on HBO2 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Issa Rae’s comedy about her character’s awkward life is a bonafide hit. The comedy series, which focuses on besties Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) dealing with their insecurities in their 20s, has been praised for its humor and authenticity. This marathon takes you through the first seven episodes of “Insecure” Season 2, which catches viewers up just in time for the Sept. 10 finale.
James Bond movies on Starz from 10:25 a.m. to 7 p.m.
If you want to spend Labor Day with 007, Starz has a great line up with movies featuring Roger Moore, Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. The day starts off with “A View to Kill,” followed by “Die Another Day.” “Octopussy” and “Goldfinger” round out the quadruple feature.
“Real Housewives” on Bravo from 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Sometimes you just need a little mindless reality TV, and if that’s what you’re looking for, Bravo has you covered. The marathon will start with “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” before moving on to Dallas and Orange County. The marathon will be capped off with new episodes of the latter two.
