  • Davis remains a vital piece but needs to be regularly available
  • Anthony Davis is currently dealing with lower back soreness

The Los Angeles Lakers made the biggest catch in 2019 when they added Anthony Davis to the roster.

Paired with LeBron James, there was no denying that the franchise is a team to reckon with.

However, the understanding is that the Lakers would be a favorite if Davis and James are healthy.

Both have had their share of injuries in the past NBA seasons, something that has led to unceremonious exits in the last two seasons.

Of the two, however, there is special attention on Davis.

Since joining the Lakers, the eight-time All-Star has struggled to get healthy after their NBA title conquest in 2020.

It would be best to note that the injuries that Davis has been dealing with are troubling, especially considering he is only 29 years old.

It is a rarity to see big men get injury-prone at this age, a concern that the ballclub may be wary about.

With that said, Lakers' management may allegedly be having second thoughts on the future with the 2017 NBA All-Star MVP.

Citing sources, ESPN's Dave McMenamin claimed that there is a sentiment among front-office executives last season that Davis does not look like the franchise player they thought they had coming off a 2020 championship.

Also at his age, Davis was seen to be someone who would initially play behind James until the 37-year-old decides to call it a career.

But given his prone to injury, there is a cloud of doubt that hovers on that possibility.

The only bright spot seen is that when healthy and available, Davis has put his talent to good use.

But all these would be futile if he is unable to consistently play in long spells–particularly when in the postseason.

The latest on the top pick of the 2012 NBA Draft is that he is dealing with lower back soreness.

However, first-year head coach Darvin Ham explained that despite Davis sitting out their trip to Sacramento last Friday, October 14, the All-Star center will have no restrictions heading into their NBA regular season opener against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, October 18.
