Lamar Odom Update: Former NBA Star Reportedly Opens Eyes
After a long week where at times it looked as though he wouldn't pull through, Lamar Odom has reportedly opened his eyes. Although the former NBA star remains hospitalized in Las Vegas, he is said to have emerged from his comatose state.
Entertainment Tonight is reporting that the former NBA star has opened his eyes and asked to see his children. The report could not confirm if he spoke or used his body to communicate.
Earlier Friday, TMZ reported Odom started to show signs of improvement. The 35-year-old's heart was starting to heal and doctor's said it was functioning "better" than it had all week. Doctors have also told the basketball star's friends and family this is a good sign of improvement, that a critical organ is responding. While Entertainment Tonight says he has woken up, TMZ says Odom has shown some movements but they are all involuntary.
Odom was give a 50/50 chance of recovery by doctor's, while there were reports of possible brain damage surfacing. In his room, estranged wife Khloé Kardashian has remained by his bedside, along with his two kids. His children, Destiny, 17, and Lamar Jr. 13, released a statement to Us Weekly Thursday thanking people for the support and prayers.
"We are here with our family and friends," they said. "We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy at this time. We ask for your continued prayers."
Odom was found unconscious with blood and mucous coming out of his nose Tuesday afternoon in a legal brothel in Pahrump, Nevada. Reports suggest he had a lot of drugs in his system, while others point to a possible combination on herbal Viagra and cocaine that triggered his problem.
The 35-year-old started a downward spiral years ago. In 2013 Kardashian filed for divorce. He was rumored to be abusing drugs like crack cocaine, while also hiring prostitutes. Prior to being found unconscious Tuesday, Odom was reported to be partying but in good spirits. Things changed after he received a call about the Season 10 finale of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians."
