Del Rey faced an intense backlash over the weekend for showing up to a public event wearing a mesh, glittery face mask that didn't really cover her mouth and nose because it was open. On Sunday, she shared a new video on Instagram of her reading a poem and many were happy that this time she wore the "proper" mask for protection.
"fFinally a better mask," one commented.
"Awww you saw ur mistake and made a change that mask looks cute as f--k," another added.
"Finally a real mask! love ya girly pls always have this one," a different fan stated.
"OMG A REAL MASK U MADE IT MOM !! LOVE U!!" another follower wrote.
Del Rey previously shared videos and a picture of her during the reading of her new book of poetry "Violent Bent Backwards Over the Grass" at a Barnes & Noble store in Los Angeles’ outdoor mall The Grove. She arrived with a fashionable mesh mask that put many of her fans off.
"ILY BUT WEAR A PROPER MASK," one commented at the time.
"Ur stans cant defend u anymore sorry we’re too depressed and annoyed at this point," another wrote.
"Lana...the health department literally had to shut the event down. You literally weren’t wearing a safe mask and there was no social distancing whatsoever. This was not smart. Please don’t do it again. Love you, but please take this virus seriously," another commented.
The Los Angeles County COVID-19 guidance states that people should wear a "cloth face covering over your nose and mouth when you must be in public and there are others nearby." The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines also encourage the people to wear masks to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, USA Today reported.
Last week, President Donald Trump announced that he and his wife Melania tested positive for COVID-19. Some blamed the first couple for not wearing face masks at their engagements. Many also prayed for their fast recovery, including Kanye West.
