Because of this, there is a great possibility that the title would not be released in 2022. It would roll out in 2023 instead, the insider said, adding that if it turns out to be true, the game would not survive for another year and a half without major updates.

Technically, Blizzard has not yet revealed the game's release window. The 2022 timeline is just based on assumptions and previous leaks.

It is worth noting, however, that while the insider already provided the community with accurate leaks in the past, the latest details related to the release window of "Overwatch 2" are not official. Fans should, therefore, temper their expectations and take these pieces of information with a grain of salt.

It can be recalled that Blizzard offered updates about "Overwatch 2" during its Q2 2021 Earnings Call on Aug. 3. The company claimed the upcoming title's development has already "passed an important internal milestone in recent weeks."

Blizzard did not elaborate on what the milestone was, but fans remain hopeful that it has something to do with the game's beta, which they could get their hands on sometime soon. Meanwhile, some believe it might be related to the "Overwatch 2" mobile game, which the studio has not announced yet.

"After a great response to the recent community update, the team is looking forward to revealing more of the game in the coming months as they approach the later stages of production," Blizzard added during the Earnings Call.

"Overwatch 2" was announced in November 2019. The game is expected to be available on various gaming consoles, as well as on PC.
