Lauren Cohan Hints At Maggie Taking Over Hilltop In ‘The Walking Dead’
Big things are in store for Lauren Cohan’s character, Maggie, in “The Walking Dead” Season 8.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress hinted on the possibility of Maggie taking over Hilltop. After all, she recently completed her leadership training and is ready to take over the group from Gregory (Xander Berkeley).
“I think Maggie feels very clear on safeguarding Hilltop and everything else that she can. And she knows that the Hilltop looks to her and respects her and follows her. And I think really quickly it snowballs into being in that place of leadership, but we’re all taking care of different factions of the world and we’re all in charge of the singular grand purpose. I mean, what else are we going to do?” she said.
The same publication revealed that the premiere for the hit AMC series will see the Hilltopers faced with a difficult decision. They would have to choose between Maggie or Gregory in the Season 8 premiere. However, this decision won’t come easily, and there will also be some consequences regardless of their choice.
Meanwhile, Maggie will continue to be pregnant in Season 8, and executive producer Scott M. Gimple confirmed that the character won’t give birth in the upcoming episodes. Maggie has been pregnant since the first half of Season 6.
Entertainment Weekly reported that the events that took place in Seasons 6 and 7 happened within only a few days. This is why Maggie still has enough time before she gives birth. More specifically, Season 7 happened within just 19 days, and Season 8 will pick up right where they left off months ago.
And since “The Walking Dead” has a slowed-down timeline, Maggie’s baby bump won’t still be very visible. “I always want to put a little ticker tape along the bottom of the episode saying how far into the apocalypse and into the pregnancy we are because I’m playing newly pregnant for a really long time,” she said.
“The Walking Dead” Season 8 will premiere on AMC on Oct. 22 at 9 p.m. EDT.
