In a bizarre case, a lawyer killed himself at his house, after leaving a suicide note confessing to the murder of a yoga teacher, who had been missing for a month.
The incident happened in the Indian city of Madurai Tuesday, reports India Today. Police were called to the house of Harikrishnan, 40, after he was found to have committed suicide. The police also recovered a suicide note from the body, apparently left by the victim, which unraveled a mystery regarding a missing woman.
Police said Harikrishnan, who was separated from his wife, was living with his 10-year-old daughter in Madurai. He was dating Chitra Devi, a yoga teacher, who used to live in the same city. Devi was living separately from her husband.
On April 5, Devi's father approached the police to file a missing person's report, saying he hasn't heard from his daughter after April 2. He approached the state chief minister's office seeking an immediate investigation into his daughter's missing.
Devi's father also provided the police with audio clips of his daughter's conversations with Harikrishnan. Further investigation revealed the duo were seeing each other, casting doubts on Harikrishnan.
It was then that the police received a call regarding the suicide. In the note, Harikrishnan confessed to having killed Chitra Devi. "The note said that he had murdered her and buried the body in his house," a senior police official told The Hindu.
He added in the note that he was unable to bear the guilt and hence decided to take his own life. However, the note has no details as to why he committed the gruesome crime.
While reports say the body has been buried in the bathroom, police officials said they are yet to ascertain the fact and a detailed investigation is on in this regard.
In a similar incident, a 34-year-old man was arrested in the Indian city of Maharashtra for murdering his girlfriend and burying her in the bathroom. The police later recovered the victim’s skeletal remains after breaking the cement wall. He later confessed to the police that he strangled his girlfriend as she was pressuring him to marry her.
