Lea Michele To Star In Christmas Movie When Her Holiday Album Drops
Lea Michele is certainly getting into the Christmas spirit early. The former “Glee” star is filming a Christmas movie and working on a holiday album.
The actress will star in “Same Time, Next Christmas” on ABC this December. The movie follows a woman who met her childhood love during a holiday vacation to Hawaii. They reunite at the resort as adults, and the chemistry is still there. However, there might be a few obstacles preventing them from getting back together right away.
“This holiday season holds special importance to me as I get to celebrate both my role in this film and my first-ever holiday album,” Michele said in a statement. “I’m honored to return to ABC with this movie event, and I am excited to share the holidays with everyone.”
Michele revealed on social media last month that she is working on a Christmas album. Though the Broadway alum recorded several Christmas albums with “Glee,” this is her first solo holiday outing.
“Christmas is literally my favorite day,” she told fans in a recent Twitter Q&A. “And I have the best memories listening to Christmas albums with my mom and dad on Christmas morning so I have always wanted to make one of my own!”
The newlywed (she married Zandy Reich in March) has teased that the LP will include a couple of duets as well. She hasn’t announced any further details yet.
Similarly, “Same Time, Next Christmas” has not announced Michele’s co-stars nor a release date. Stephen Herek will direct the movie, which is from Freeform Studios. This marks the first time ABC will air a project from Freeform Studios.
“Same Time, Next Christmas” brings Michele back to ABC after her short-lived sitcom “The Mayor” was canceled by the network last year. She rose to fame in Broadway’s “Spring Awakening” before spending six seasons as Rachel Berry on “Glee.” In addition to starring in “Scream Queens,” the actress has also written two books and released two solo albums.
Aside from her upcoming holiday projects, the 32-year-old is also set to host a digital series called “Well, Well, Well with Lea Michele.” The show is set to premiere on the Ellen Digital Network and feature the actress giving lifestyle and wellness tips.
