Square Enix stealth shooter game “Left Alive” has been bombarded with bad reviews after its release in Japan. Potentially, the failure of this project could bury the “Front Mission” franchise even more due to the outcome of this spin-off entry. Here’s what we know about this.

According to Siliconera’s report, “Left Alive’s” release in Japan was met with criticism due to the game’s issue with its controls, character motions, graphics and its poor design. Its Amazon Japan rating is only 1.8 out of 5.

Soon after, the game had its streaming blocked on the PlayStation 4 and has received a price cut following it. While Square Enix’s future plan is yet to be known, some fans are worried about the game’s outcome.

The “Front Mission” series was a tactical RPG game where players would control large military robots called Wanzers and their pilots as they fight through square grid battlefields. Players can plan their actions in dispatching their foes. More than its gameplay and giant mecha robots, the series has been praised for its deep story, which many fans loved. “Left Alive” is set in this world of robots and military conflict.

Aside from its gameplay, many stealth game fans such as “Metal Gear Solid” players were also looking forward to the release of this game. After “Metal Gear Solid 5” concluded, Hideo Kojima and Konami parted ways and the newest “Metal Gear” game wasn’t a stealth game.

When the chances of another Kojima “Metal Gear” game seemed bleak, Square Enix’s “Left Alive” felt like their next home. Even “Metal Gear’s” former character designer, Yoji Shinkawa, is in this project. Shinkawa provides the character portraits in “Left Alive,” which has a “Metal Gear” feel to it due to his artstyle.

While its Japanese reviews is hurting the game, we’ve yet to see the game's performance stateside after its worldwide release. Its worldwide release is this coming March 5. We’ll see for ourselves if the game is still worth its price or if Square Enix pushed out the discount for a reason.
