‘Legacies’ Spoilers: Is Landon A Phoenix? 6 Things To Know About Creatures
“Legacies” may have finally revealed Landon’s true identity last week. After Landon’s return from the dead, Alaric asked Landon if he’d ever heard of the legend of the phoenix. That might reveal a lot about Hope’s boyfriend. Fans can look to mythology to find a little more about what that might indicate about him.
Rebirth: This is why Alaric (Matt Davis) thinks Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) is a phoenix. When he died, his body eventually burst into flames and he came back to life. Typically, however, legends say phoenixes start a new life. Landon seems to be returning as the teen he was when he left, but will his mind be the same?
Protectors: According to the American Museum of Natural History, there are Chinese palaces and temples with phoenixes painted on roof tiles for protection. The ceramic pieces have many beasts, but all those protective creatures are led by a phoenix. Could Landon’s duty be protecting the keys to Malivore? Or protecting Malivore itself?
Faithful: The Jewish legend of the phoenix, known as milcham, is known for being faithful to God, Ancient Origins reports. He didn’t take the forbidden fruit and in return received a peaceful town and immunity to death. Mystic Falls will never be peaceful, and the “Vampire Diaries” universe doesn’t deal much with God directly. However, Landon does seem pretty loyal to his friends, like Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) and Hope (Danielle Rose Russell).
Healers: Some stories, including “Harry Potter” (which clearly inspired parts of “Legacies”), say phoenix tears are healing. We haven’t seen Landon cry into any open wounds, but this also might present itself in a different way. Landon likes to help. He wanted to fix MG’s (Quincy Fouse) relationship with his family, and he’s always putting himself into the supernatural fight despite thinking that he’s human. Perhaps he’s trying to heal tough situations rather than physical wounds.
Royalty: The phoenix is a symbol of royalty in many legends. Landon’s father is still a mystery. Is he the king of something? Malivore, perhaps? Is Hope dating a literal prince?
Fans will have to tune in to “Legacies” to find out exactly how the CW show interprets the phoenix myth (if that’s really what Landon is). Season 1 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
