‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ Season 2 Spoilers: ‘iZombie’ Alum Matthew MacCaull Is Reprising His Role As Commander Steel [PHOTOS]
Matthew MacCaull is returning as Commander Steel in the second half of “Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2.
MacCaull — who played Sebastian Meyer in Season 1 of “iZombie” — was spotted filming some scenes with Arthur Darvill in downtown Vancouver on Thursday, Jan. 12. According to YVRShoots, the pair was shooting scenes for episode 13, titled “Moonshot.” See some of their photos below:
As viewers will remember, Commander Steel, a.k.a. Henry Heywood, is Nate’s (Nick Zano) grandfather. He made his debut appearance in the Season 2 premiere of the CW series, along with his fellow Justice Society of America members Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), Stargirl (Sarah Grey), Dr. Mid-Nite (Kwesi Ameyaw) and Obsidian (Dan Payne). He was last seen in episode 2 of the current season.
A few highlights of Commander Steel’s life story were revealed through Nate’s narration in previous episodes of the season.
Sometime before 1939, Commander Steel joined the army, and was given dog tags with the number 070233. In 1939, he saved President Roosevelt from an assassin’s bullet, which left a dent in his tags. He gave his dog tags to his wife after their son was born in 1955. During a mission in Leipzig, he and other members of Justice Society of America never returned. After his death in 1956, his wife gave their son the dog tags, which he eventually passed down to his own son, who is none other than Nate.
“Legends of Tomorrow” returns to The CW with an all-new episode on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. EST. Check out the synopsis for Season 2, episode 9, titled “Raiders of the Lost Art,” below:
“When Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) try to capture Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) in 1967, they create an aberration big enough to draw the attention of the Legends. However, when the team arrives they discover that Rip has no memories of his past due to ‘time drift’ and is just a graduate film student. After trying to convince Rip of who he was, they discover that he possesses an incredibly powerful artifact known as the Spear of Destiny, which the Legion of Doom is after. Ray (Bradon Routh) and Nate realize that the aberration has also affected them personally making it difficult to help the team. Meanwhile, Rory (Dominic Purcell) asks Stein (Victor Garber) for help and makes him promise to keep it a secret from the team.”
