Lent Traditions: 9 Fish Sandwiches To Try Instead Of Meat On Friday
As Lent kicked off with Ash Wednesday, Christians around the world are gearing up for Easter Sunday, with many of them abstaining from alcohol, sweets, meat, or something else during the reflection period.
For those that have decided to forego meat on Fridays – a common tradition – it may come with some trepidation as quick and convenient alternatives to beef and poultry are hard to come by.
But many fast-food restaurants have answered the call during Lent and are now offering fish options on their menus, including these nine fish sandwiches, that can help put the hunger pains at bay during the Lenten season.
Here are nine fish sandwiches to try during Lent 2021.
Arby’s
Hungry customers can try one of two fish sandwich options at Arby’s for a limited time during Lent. The fast-food chain is selling the Crispy Fish Sandwich, which features a wild-caught Alaskan Pollock fillet, iceberg lettuce, and tartar sauce, or the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich, which also has tomatoes and cheddar cheese on a King Hawaiian bun.
Burger King
Burger King features the Big Fish Sandwich on its menu, which it said is 100% Alaskan Pollock that has been breaded with panko and topped with a sweet tartar sauce and pickles. It is served on a toasted brioche-style bun. The fish sandwich can be ordered a la carte or as a meal with a drink and a side.
Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s
At Carl’s Jr. customers can bite into the Beer-Battered Fish Sandwich. The sandwich has a crispy beer-battered Alaskan Pollock fillet that is served with a lettuce leaf, tartar sauce, and placed on a seeded bun. The Hardee’s Beer-Battered Fish Sandwich has a bun without seeds.

The Cod Filet Sandwich features a hand-cut, hand-battered, cooked-to-order Cod fillet that is topped with tartar sauce made with olives, capers, and sweet relish, as well as lettuce and Wisconsin cheddar. It is served on a buttered and toasted hoagie roll.
The Walley Sandwich has a Walley fillet that comes from Canadian waters that is also hand-battered and hand-cooked. It uses the same special tartar sauce recipe and has shredded lettuce and a buttered roll. However, it is only available for a limited time.
