Lewis Hamilton Will Exceed Michael Schumacher With His Skills, F1 Legend Says
KEY POINTS
- Formula One legend Eddie Jordan believes Lewis Hamilton will soon exceed Michael Schumacher
- Jordan thinks Michael Schumacher isn't the best F1 racer of all time
- Schumacher still tops Hamilton in several categories aside from world titles
A Formula One legend said Lewis Hamilton could exceed Michael Schumacher to become the greatest of all time because of his skills and not only because of his car.
Eddie Jordan is a Formula One legend and motorsport pundit who has just revealed that he had some issues with Schumacher. In an exclusive interview with “Off The Ball,” Jordan weighed in on several topics about the sport and one of them is who the greatest driver of all time is.
According to Jordan, he wants to believe that Ayrton Senna is the best but he can’t as the late Brazilian’s legacy is more of a “love affair” than winning. As for Schumacher, Jordan thinks that the Ferrari legend is the most talented but for him, the greatest to ever hold the wheel is Alain Prost.
"Probably Michael was the most talented, but for me the best driver I've seen in the thirty or so years I was around the thing was Alain Prost,” Jordan said.
In modern Formula One, the driver leading the way is Mercedes superstar Hamilton. The Brit has already secured his sixth world championship at the Austin Grand Prix last year to close in on Schumacher in the all-time list.
Some believe that Hamilton, as well as Schumacher, won world titles because they have driven the best cars. But for Jordan, Hamilton is a pure talent who can exceed everybody beyond him regardless of the car he drives.
"That's probably going to change very shortly because I do feel that Lewis Hamilton has achieved all of those things. Okay, in a different era where there is a monopoly - the car is quite simply staggering, but nevertheless he has maximised it,” Jordan said.
"I would say by the next couple of months, if there is a World Championship this year, we'll see yet another champion achieving seven world titles. I think Lewis Hamilton has every chance to be the greatest driver of all time,” he added.
Aside from the world titles, Hamilton is still behind Schumacher in few categories of the sport. The German icon still holds the most fastest laps in history, beating Hamilton 77 to 47. “Schumi” is still the driver who has the most wins in one season. However, Sebastian Vettel matched it in 2013. Overall, Schumacher and Vettel both top the list with 13 wins in a single season while Hamilton is just 2 wins behind with 11.
