Liam Payne has opened up about his split from his ex-fiancée, model Maya Henry.
The former One Direction singer revealed during the Monday episode of "The Diary of a CEO" podcast that he and Henry have called off their engagement.
"I am indeed [single]," Payne was quoted by People as saying when asked about his relationship status on the podcast. "I feel like more than anything at this point, I'm more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people. That annoys me. I've just not been very good at relationships."
The 27-year-old singer added that he has a “pattern” when it comes to dating.
"I know what my pattern of things is with relationships, I feel at this point. I'm just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else. And I feel like that's where I got to in my last relationship," he explained.
The "Strip That Down" singer didn't go into detail about what led to their split but hinted that it was him who was not happy. Payne shared that he "wasn't giving a very good version of me anymore, that I didn't appreciate and I didn't like being."
"I can honestly say that I feel better out of it. I didn't feel good for doing what I did but it had to happen," he added. "I know that's the corniest way of saying it was best for both of us...but it just feels like that."
The 20-year-old model has yet to comment about their breakup. But Payne said he hopes "she's happy."
Payne and Henry were first spotted together in August 2018, but they did not start regularly stepping out in public until summer the next year.
They were photographed together in Mayfair in August 2019, holding hands during a date night, Capital FM reported. They were also seen enjoying a secret date night at an exclusive Bulgari hotel to celebrate his birthday.
Payne made their relationship Instagram official in September 2019 when he shared a photo of them cuddling on a couch. In the post, he thanked his team and Henry for helping him keep going amid the stressful situations he encountered while working on his single "Stack It Up."
"Sometimes I don’t recognize this happy guy… sure glad you brought him back though," he captioned the picture. "[Thank you] for always keeping the biggest smile on my face through all the stress and making me realize how perfect my life really is."
Payne and the model announced their engagement in August last year through their reps, shortly after Henry was seen wearing a diamond ring. The singer later confirmed the news during an appearance on "Good Morning America."
"We’re just really happy," Payne said. "I mean, in the last week, I’ve just had a birthday, my son has gone to school for the first time today, so it seems like a lot of firsts for me, really, actually, which is great."
