Lil Nas X admitted he really enjoyed "pissing people off" after he won Variety's Innovator of the Year Award, which was presented by singer Chloe Bailey in Los Angeles on Saturday.

"It's been like a pretty crazy year," Nas X said after accepting the award on stage. "It's been a pretty fun year. I had a lot of fun pissing people off."

Although he immediately said, "I'm kidding," and noted that this year was difficult for him mentally.

"This year took a lot of mental strength for me just to even continue to keep pushing after my debut reached such a high place so, so quickly," the 22-year-old explained. "And it's very scary to try to follow up and keep it going."

Nas X further explained how he put effort to make his career successful and thanked everyone for this award.

"But I came out. I was myself. I did what I needed to do," the rapper continued. "I put effort into every single part of my career. And I'm super thankful for this award."

The rapper has been pissing people off on the internet as he received a backlash in September for flaunting fake baby bump photos on Twitter.

"SURPRISE! I can’t believe I’m finally announcing this. My little bundle of joy “MONTERO” is due September 17, 2021," he wrote on Twitter along with photos of his baby bump.

However, the rapper explained the reason behind faking a baby bump in order to promote his debut album, "Montero."

"I'm like a mother sending her child out into the world," he told People at the time. "I'm super excited for everyone to hear this piece of art I've been working on for such a long time."

Moreover, the rapper noted that over the period of time he has changed a lot, and that he can manage his anger and sadness way better. "I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose how to react. I've learned to let people's comments roll off my back," he explained the outlet.

On the work front, the rapper lent his voice to an animated TV series, titled "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder," which is slated to release next year.
