Lili Reinhart Slammed For Posting ‘Racially Insensitive’ Halloween Costume Photo; Actress Apologizes
Lili Reinhart recently went under fire for posting a “racially insensitive” photo of her chosen Halloween costume.
Over the weekend, the “Riverdale” actress uploaded a photo of a demon wearing a black bodysuit and black-colored body paint that she found online. In her caption, she revealed that she will wear a similar costume for Halloween. “Inspired by the color of my soul,” she added.
Minutes after posting the photo, fans of Reinhart accused her of wanting to “do blackface.” The actress, who plays Betty Cooper, in the hit The CW series deleted the snap from her social media account. Reinhart also issued an apology on Sunday and told her followers that it wasn’t her intention to offend anyone.
In her lengthy post, Reinhart said that she had no idea some people would think that it her post was “racially insensitive.” But she acknowledged that it could’ve been interpreted by other people differently.
Meanwhile, Reinhart is not the only actor who offended fans with their choice of Halloween costume. In 2013, Hough decided to cover her face with brown paint when she portrayed Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) from “Orange is the New Black.” At that time, critics accused her of being “racially insensitive.”
Hough explained that it wasn’t her intention to offend anyone and apologized for what she did. “I am a huge fan of the show ‘Orange is the New Black,’ actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” Hough said.
Aduba accepted her apology and asked everyone to “move on” from the incident. “I think it was an unfortunate event, but she apologized and I feel like we can all move on,” Aduba told E! News.
Openly gay actor Colton Haynes was also accused of doing blackface multiple times. In 2014, the “Arrow” actor also apologized for what he did.
