Lily Collins On Facing Rejection Early In Her Career 'Over And Over Again'
Lily Collins has revealed the beginning of her acting career wasn't smooth, as she had to face rejections over and over again.
"I got told 'no' over and over and over again. The feedback was that I was too green," Collins recalled during an interview with V Magazine on Monday. "I was like, 'I don't know what that means. Like, green as in 'Go'?"
The 33-year-old actress admitted she really "needed a little more maturing, practice, and experience" at that time. She went on to share that she handled rejections with a mindset that eventually things will work in her favor.
She added, "I guess, for me, it was always really important to not take [rejection] as, 'No, this isn't going to be for you.' It was just, 'No, not right now.'"
The "Emily in Paris" star noted that everything she learned throughout her career can be useful not only in acting but also in any other creative field.
"I think whatever creative outlet, whether it's music, acting, or writing, if you want to be a lawyer, a dancer, if you feel strongly that it is just so much a part of who you are, deep down to the core, you know that, ultimately, you're going to get there somehow," she explained.
Collins has been playing Emily Cooper's character in the popular Netflix series, "Emily in Paris" since 2020. The third season of the series dropped on the streaming giant on Dec. 21 and the fourth season was slated to release in 2024.
Considering her upcoming projects, she will be next seen in a thriller movie, "Titan," which is helmed by director Austin Bunn. It is currently under pre-production. She will also star in a drama revolving around a small circus, titled "Halo of Stars," which is under post-production.
The actress will also work in a psychological thriller movie, "The Accomplice," which is based on a novel of the same name, penned by Lisa Lutz.
On the personal front, the actress got married to director Charlie McDowell in September last year. The couple got engaged in September 2020 after dating for more than a year.
