Liu Reconsiders Run for NYC Mayor Following Staffer's Arrest
New York City Comptroller John Liu is distancing himself from his campaign staff in response to a scandal involving his campaign treasurer, who was arrested on fraud charges, according to NY1. At a Black History Month event at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, Liu commented, All options are on the table. We're moving forward.
He explained that he was now focusing more on his job as comptroller, thus hinting that he may ultimately abandon his run for mayor in 2013. Liu's 25-year-old campaign treasurer Jenny Hou was arrested Tuesday when it was discovered that she was funneling large, illegal donations from straw donors to Liu's campaign.
Liu maintains that he did not know about the scheme. At the end of the day, I am fully responsible, but the campaign team ran the day-to-day operations of the campaign, Liu said.
