KEY POINTS

  • Nathaniel Philips is open to moving out of Liverpool to join a team where his talent can be maximized
  • Philips can immediately address the woes of West Ham at center-back with their regulars injured
  • Newcastle could be a fresh lease for Philips where his no-nonsense style fits

Nathaniel Philips has fallen down the pecking order over at Liverpool, and it appears the English center-back is looking to bring his act elsewhere.

The 24-year-old mentioned to Sky Sports that he is ready to leave Liverpool as early as the January transfer window and head somewhere else.

Two teams who may consider him are Newcastle United and West Ham United.

Philips joined the Reds just last season and played in 20 matches. He was a revelation for Jurgen Klopp, picking up the slack with injured stars such as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the sidelines.

However, a lot has changed since then with both van Dijk and Gomez back in action.

With Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate ahead of him in the rotation, Philips dropped to being the fifth-choice defender.

Moreover, he has so far appeared in just three senior outings for Liverpool.

Although he is open to a move out of Anfield, there are money matters on the table.

The English center-back signed a new contract in the summer worth £12 million ($15.98 million) that is good until 2025.

Regardless, it appears the fee of Philips is not much of an issue with both the Hammers and the Magpies ready to splurge.

Newcastle is pretty interested in him, according to The Telegraph.

But the case is the same for West Ham who is trying to fill gaps on their side with their center-backs out injured, the Evening Standard claimed.

“It’s unlikely that I’ll be playing lots of games for Liverpool. If an opportunity arises where I get the chance to do that somewhere else and it suits everyone then it’s certainly something I’d be interested in,” Philips stated.

Most are aware that Newcastle United will make a big push in January to sign new players to the roster.

But as far as being maximized, Philips’ best bet may be to join the Hammer.

With Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna sidelined, there is no doubt that David Moyes could use someone in the caliber of Philips to fill the void immediately.
