  • Liverpool is feeling the need to secure a contract extension deal with Mohamed Salah
  • Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed the truth about Salah's situation
  • The Egyptian striker is said to have been a target of Barcelona

Despite all the rumors, Liverpool may have never been on the verge of losing Mohamed Salah.

The Reds are having quite a season thus far. However, the club must address a few important matters in order to ensure that things will stay as they are in the future.

Topping the list is Salah’s contract extension.

Salah's current deal with Liverpool is set to expire in the summer of 2023. However, the Reds need to secure a fresh set of terms as other clubs are already interested in raiding the prolific striker.

Amid all speculations, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp assured that there’s “really nothing” to worry about and confirmed that “talks” of Salah’s contract renewal are already being worked out.

“We’re talking and extending a contract with a player like Mo is not something where you meet for a cup of tea in the afternoon and find an agreement,” Klopp said via Sky Sports. “That’s completely normal. There’s really nothing else to say about Mo. He speaks about it and I can only say a few things because all the rest is not for the public, obviously.”

“But I’m not sure if he gave the interview in English or it was translated and arrived in English and that is an issue we saw in the last few days again,” the coach added. “So really a lot of things can happen when someone tries to do that and Mo is fine, I am fine. I think what we all want is clear and things like this need time, that is it.”

As for Salah, his preference has never been an issue as he sees himself staying with Liverpool regardless of what club is keen on signing him.

“I said it several times, if the decision is up to me, I want to stay in Liverpool,” Salah told MBC Masr TV.

“But the decision is in the hands of the management and they have to solve this issue."

Prior to Klopp and Salah’s statements, Barcelona has been heavily linked to a swoop for the award-winning striker.

Recent reports claim that Barca boss Xavi Hernandez is fancying having Salah in his squad.

Despite being flattered about it, the Egyptian quickly dismissed the idea of joining the Catalans.

“I read what was said about Xavi’s interest to sign me,” the two-time English Premier League champion admitted. "This is something that makes me happy that a team like Barcelona is interested in me, but I’m happy in Liverpool and we will see what happens in the future.”

“At the moment, I prefer to stay in the Premier League as it’s the strongest league in the world."
