'Loki': Director Kate Herron Confirms Tom Hiddleston’s Character Is Bisexual

The director of Disney+ series "Loki," Kate Herron, has confirmed the God of Mischief is bisexual, making him the first queer lead character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Loki's sexual orientation was discussed by the character in the latest episode of the series. One particular scene in the episode of “Loki” drew the interest of fans, as Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, said during a conversation with the timeline-hopping variant, Sylvie, he’s interested in both princes and princesses.

The scene showed Loki and Sylvie discussing their love lives while waiting for an apocalypse to ensue, during which the latter asked Loki if he had ever been in a relationship with “would-be princesses, or perhaps another prince.”

“A bit of both,” answered Loki. “I suspect the same as you, but nothing ever…,” suggesting he suspects that Sylvie feels the same way.

While the conversation was a small moment in the series, it was important for MCU and the fans, who have long been wondering about Loki’s sexuality.

On Wednesday, Herron took to Twitter to talk about the moment, confirming that Loki was bisexual. “From the moment I joined ‘Loki,’ it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual,” she wrote. “It is a part of who he is and who I am too. I know this is a small step but I’m happy and my heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon in MCU,” she added.

Loki has been depicted as bisexual in Marvel comics several times before. In 2017, “Loki: Agent of Asgard” writer Al Ewing also revealed he intended to explore the fluid gender of the character in his work. “Yes, Loki is bi,” he said. He’ll shift between genders occasionally as well.” However, this was the first time his sexuality was ever discussed in the MCU.

It remains to be seen whether Loki will have cause to explore or express his sexuality in the series, but at least two other queer characters are confirmed to appear in the MCU in the near future. ‘’Eternals,” which opens in November, will feature the MCU’s first gay superhero in Phastos and his husband.
